Home-Visiting Volunteers

Home-Start Kirkcaldy is a free, confidential home-visiting service for families with children under 5 years of age and living in Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn, Burntisland and Cardenden.

Volunteers are able to offer support and friendship to share practical experiences with families in their own homes. They are not home-helps, cleaners or babysitters.

Volunteers are drawn from a wide cross section of the community, with a variety of ages and backgrounds.

Volunteers are usually parents themselves and are able to offer time each week – usually a morning or afternoon to visit a family with young children.

Volunteers are not paid for home visiting but receive travelling expenses. Before they visit families, volunteers must attend a 5 week Preparation Course which gives them more information on Home-Start.

Volunteers will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure.

Volunteers can provide a variety of support and practical help.

For example:

  • Playing with Children
  • Being an extra pair of hands when you are out
  • Going to the park
  • Being there to talk to
  • Helping in and out of the home
